Products Available:

CeltiCare is Celtic's best-known premier coverage for healthy applicants. The most current version of CeltiCare insurance (5.1)  has been available to individuals and families in North Carolina since June 2010.

Celtic Basic is a more affordable coverage for healthy applicants. The most current version of Celtic Basic (2.2) has been available to individuals and families in North Carolina since June 2010.

Celtic Saver HSA takes advantage of the cost-saving features of a Health Savings Account. High deductible insurance plans are comined with optional qualified savings accounts available at no additional cost. The most current version of Celtic Saver Health Savings Account plan (3.0) has been available to individuals and families in North Carolina since June 2010.

Celtic Short Term Medical Insurance is available for 1 month or longer (up to a 6 or 12 month maximum) with more liberal eligibility requirements. Short term coverage is less expensive because it does not pay the cost of prior medical conditions.

The most current version of Celtic STM (3.0) has been available to individuals and families in North Carolina since June 2010.

A special note: monthly payment option is not allowed for short term medical insurance policies issues in North Carolina. A single premium is required for the 1 to 6 month period of coverage selected. (This restriction does not apply to the regular renewable policies listed above.

State-specific Variations of Coverage

CeltiCare, Celtic Saver HSA and Celtic Basic (except where indicated) health plans have the following significant variations in coverage in accordance with state law:

  • Pre-Existing Conditions - 6 months /6 months. Credit given for prior creditable coverage.
  • Well Child Care –including immunizations, covered through age 18.
  • Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ) – coverage for diagnosis and surgical treatment of TMJ.
  • Contraceptive Coverage.
  • Dental General Anesthesia -if medically necessary for an insured either developmentally disabled or under 7 years of age.
  • Severe Mental Illness/Serious Emotional Disturbances -same as any sickness, excluding alcohol, drug and substance abuse.
  • Osteoporosis – medically necessary services for the diagnosis, treatment and management of osteoporosis
  • Phenylketonuria – Enteral formula and special food products when prescribed by a physician.
  • Prosthetic devices -initial and subsequent prosthetic devices needed to restore a method of speaking as a result of a laryngectomy.
  • Othotic/Prosthetic devices – initial and replacement as prescribed by a physician. (Does not apply to Celtic Basic policies).
  • Cancer Clinical Trials-coverage provided for an insured diagnosed with cancer and accepted into a phase I through IV clinical trial for cancer.
  • Home Health Care Charges – up to 100 visits per calendar year in lieu of hospital or extended care facility confinement. (Does not apply to Celtic Basic policies).
  • For Celtic Basic policies only: Alcoholism - Inpatient $2,500 annual maximum. Outpatient $1,000 annual maximum. Lifetime maximum $10,000 inpatient and outpatient combined.

Celtic Insurance News in North Carolina

5/1/2011 North Carolina residents using a paper application form should now use state specific application form U5-581-00241-NC for all individual medical insurance and state specific application form U5-589-00249-NC for short term insurance. The correct application forms are always automatically used when using the online enrollment system.

9/7/2010 The Wall Street Journal reports that about half of the 18% increase in Celtic Insurance Company's rates in North Carolina comes from complying with new federal and state health laws known as Obamacare. Health insurance industry observers say the increase was expected due to expansion of costly coverage skewed toward high risk individuals while Obama officials threaten retaliation against insurance companies who criticize the new law.
