Clarification of "Healthy Texas" program name

"Partnership for a Healthy Texas" is not an insurance program

We occasionally receive inquires that apparently stem from misunderstanding of the name "Healthy Texas". This phrase is used to identify more than one program operating in the state. Apparently no entity has applied for a trademark so the several programs operate simultaneously with the shared name phrase. We are only involved in the Healthy Texas insurance program and not the other "Healthy Texas" programs. The two most commonly confused are "Program for a Healthy Texas" and "HealthyTexas.org".

Healthy Texas insurance program is a group health insurance plan that is:

Health Texas insurance is offered by two insurance companies: Celtic Insurance and UnitedHealthcare. Tony Novak, the author of this article and owner of this Web site, is not associated with Celtic Insurance Company in the state of Texas but is a Celtic Insurance producer in other states. Novak is the principal of OnlineNavigator.org that is an enrollment adviser for Medicaid and government-subsidized health insurance plans, including Healthy Texas insurance.

The Partnership for a Healthy Texas is a program that:

  1. encourages schools to maintain the intent of recess, as a break from the structure of the day, and supports legislation that would clearly delineate that recess does not take the place of a physical education program nor the required minutes of structured physical activity,
  2. supports legislation that would encourage a physical education program in early childhood environments
  3. recognizes the direct link between environmental factors such as the physical layout of a community and the physical activity of its citizens.
  4. supports introduction of a resolution supporting Walkable Communities that encourages developers, builders, cities and other governmental entities to promote community designs that encourage physical activity by creating infrastructures such as sidewalks, bike and pedestrian trails, safe routes to schools, and transportation projects such as those that minimize low-traffic residential streets that feed into multilane, high-speed arterial streets that present serious barriers and dangers to pedestrians; those that address a lack of street-crossing aids; those that address the need to cross several roads and adding crosswalks.

HealthyTexas.org Web site is run by the Institute for Integration of Medicine and Science (IIMS). This is the institutional home for the Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) granted to the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) and its partner organizations.

There is no known connection between any of the distinct programs using the "Healthy Texas" name and apparently no group has applied for a trademark on the name.
